Peace+Joy Squared: ArtPod's seasonal square works show

Welcome to Metchosin ArtPod's Seasonal Show for 2024: Peace + Joy Squared.

Deadline for entries: Friday,
This show will run Friday, 15 November  to Sunday, 22 December 2024

Please read these instructions fully AND read through our general submission guidelines at https://metchosinartpod.ca/sub... as these go over important general information about copyright and originality, as well as where and when works can have previously been shown and other general information.

SHOW INTENTIONS

One gift virtually everyone can wish for others at this time of year is peace and joy. How do you as an artist pass on your joy? Or what does peace mean to you and how can you convey that sentiment?  Is joy a colour, a landscape, a portrait, a symbol, an animal, a song, a story?  Is peace stillness, a sound, a simple palette, a grounding, a scent, a practice, a poem, an unshakable belief— how can you impart that?

Question: How to increase the amount of peace and joy in the world? A: YOU SQUARE IT!

Please submit your 2D works in a square format, any size, on the theme of Peace or Joy.

3D artists may joyfully play with squares in their surface decoration or by literally making works in cubes or some other innovative artistic interpretation of our show themes.

We will accept any size work but consider submitting pieces of a consistent size so we can display them as mini-sets. For this show we will allow each artist to submit up to 4 works for consideration to our juror, Carolyn Hoag.

Submission Window: 4 October-  midnight Friday 1 November 2024

Show Dates: Friday 15 Nov- Sunday 22 Dec 2024

Celebratory Opening Event: Saturday  16 Nov 2024 2-4pm

Please see our website for in depth submission guidelines via this link: https://metchosinartpod.ca

In addition.... our goal for 2024 is to enhance our visual art exhibits by asking our artists to suggest song pairings that inspired their work or speak to it in some way. We create the playlists on YouTube and make them available to the public via a link on our website. We are interested in listening to the playlist our artists choose of music which has influenced and inspired their investigation into the theme of 'Palimpsest: the not ~so ~blank slate’. Your participation in the music selection activity is optional and the juror will not see your choice nor description of why you chose it.

The artist statement that is on your data page (email, phone number...) is just a short information statement about you as an artist.  This section only allows 300 characters. It is designed to say something about yourself. There is an opportunity later, in the submission form, to talk about what inspired you to create your submission(s).

For any sections that allow longer text we suggest you create it in a Word document and then cut and paste it into ArtCall as the website times-out in one hour and it's surprising how fast that can happen! Alternatively, be sure to update your submission frequently.

We charge a $10.00 submission fee per art piece.

If you are accepted to the show, there is an additional $20.00 per piece hanging fee which ArtCall calls the 'booth' fee, and which you will have to pay to be entered into the show. Please use the drop-down menu and request a  1x1x1 booth on the submission form.

We charge 30% commission on art pieces sold.

NOTE TO ARTISTS: ArtPod keeps participating artist information on file so that we can follow up with artists about this and other shows. We will not sell your contact information.  If you wish to be removed from this list, please email contact@metchosinartpod.ca with the title “Please remove me from ArtPod’s Participating Artists list".

Use of Artist Images and Artist Rights

  • Suppose your work is selected by the Juror(s). In that case, Metchosin Artpod may use the images to promote the show in several ways, including but not limited to social media, printed media, video or exhibition catalogues.
  • However, the artist retains all rights to their work, as our mission is to promote the artist’s work. By submitting your work, you grant Metchosin ArtPod the right to reproduce it for these purposes.
  • Where feasible, we will credit you and your copyright and use your work for no other purpose.

We look forward to seeing your artwork!

Please plan to attend the Show Opening Celebration on Saturday 16 November2024  from 2pm - 4pm which is open to all, and especially to participating artists who are invited to briefly speak about their pieces in the show. That is also where the Juror is introduced and invited to speak about their work and selection process. The three Juror's Choice awards are presented towards the end of the event!
